Novak Djokovic to Play Shanghai Masters in October 2025
Former world number one Novak Djokovic will participate in the Shanghai Masters event in October 2025. Tournament organizers made the announcement Tuesday, confirming Djokovic’s return to the competition.
“He’s back… Our 4-time champ will return to Shanghai this year,” organizers posted on social media, generating excitement ahead of the event’s start on October 1.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has been absent from official matches since his semi-final defeat at the US Open to Carlos Alcaraz earlier in September. Following that loss, Djokovic remained uncertain about his schedule for the remainder of the season, having competed in fewer tournaments in 2025 compared to previous years.
The world number four had previously only confirmed his participation in the 250 event in Athens, scheduled from November 2-8, which replaced the Belgrade tournament on this year’s calendar.
His involvement in the Paris Masters (October 27-November 2) and the ATP Finals in Turin (November 9-16) – the two major tournaments following Shanghai – is still pending confirmation.
Djokovic’s return to the Shanghai Masters is highly anticipated by tennis fans. He has won the title four times previously. His presence will undoubtedly elevate the competition and add another layer of excitement to the tournament.
The Shanghai Masters is one of the most prestigious ATP Masters 1000 events, attracting top players from around the globe. Djokovic’s participation will make the 2025 edition particularly compelling as he aims to add another title to his impressive career.
