Honda 0 α Electric SUV Concept Unveiled, India Launch in 2027
Honda has unveiled the 0 α (Alpha) electric SUV concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, signaling the entry point to the brand’s 0 Series of EVs. The production-spec version of the 0 α is confirmed for launch in India and Japan, among other global markets, starting in 2027. Unlike the larger Honda 0 SUV, which will arrive in India via the CBU route next year, the 0 α SUV will be produced locally.
The Honda 0 α SUV concept shares design cues with the larger Honda 0 SUV showcased earlier. Honda designers emphasize that the 0 α SUV concept is close to production-ready, with most design elements expected to carry over to the final model.
The new Honda SUV concept is smaller than the 0 SUV but maintains a similar development approach, dubbed ‘Thin, Light, and Wise,’ and design language. Key design features include an upright and wide stance, along with sharply raked front and vertical rear windscreens. The window line tapers towards the rear, and a thick C-pillar gives a hint of MPV styling. A small boot spoiler is also visible. The front incorporates an illuminated Honda logo and a charging port framed by the headlights. Prominent body cladding runs along the sides, and aero-design 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels are housed within protruding wheel arches.

The rear windscreen is framed by full-width, U-shaped tail-lights, and an oversized faux bash plate is integrated into the rear bumper, incorporating smaller light units.
While Honda has yet to disclose the interior or technical details of the Honda 0 α SUV, Toshikazu Hirose, a chief engineer at Honda Motor Co, revealed that the wheelbase will be between 2,700-2,800mm, optimizing interior space. The upright rear tailgate suggests ample luggage capacity and interior room. He also stated that Honda will offer two battery pack options with the production α SUV, utilizing LFP batteries, which are better suited for India’s climate. Battery capacity is expected to be competitive, likely in the 65kWh-75kWh range.
Initially, the Honda 0 α SUV will be offered as a single-motor, front-wheel-drive EV.
Upon its arrival, the production-spec Honda 0 α SUV is poised to directly compete with the Maruti e Vitara, not only in India but also in global markets. Other potential rivals in the Indian market include the Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Tata Curvv EV. The estimated price range for the Honda EV is between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh.
